Block templates
A block template gives one of Omeka's standard blocks a different design. In the page editor, open the block's layout configuration (its gear button) and choose a Template.
| Block | Templates |
|---|---|
| HTML | Lead paragraph · Callout box · Card · Two columns · Pull quote · Call to action (links become buttons) |
| Asset | Hero banner · Image cards · Logo wall |
| Media embed | Gallery grid (with image viewer) · Feature (large media and caption) |
| Browse preview | Cards · Compact list · Featured first item |
| Item with metadata | Spotlight |
| List of pages | Cards |
| List of sites | Cards |
| Page title | Display title |
| Line break | Ornament · Extra space |
| Table of contents | Cards |
Hero banner uses the first image of the Asset block: its caption becomes the headline and its page link the button; further captions become subtitles.
Blocks without templates
These core blocks are styled to fit the theme without choosing anything:
- oEmbed: videos and other embedded players keep their own proportions on every screen size, and get an accessible name.
- IIIF image and IIIF presentation: the image viewer and the Mirador viewer fit the screen height and are framed like other media.
- Page date/time: a quiet line with the created and modified dates.
Section styles
Type one of these classes into the Class field of a block's or block group's layout configuration. Text, links and buttons inside adjust automatically.
| Class | Effect |
|---|---|
section-tint |
Lightly tinted full-width band |
section-primary, section-secondary, section-accent, section-dark |
Colored full-width band |
section-contained |
Keeps a colored section inside the content width, with rounded corners |
section-full |
Full width without color |
section-wide |
Wider than the content column |
section-narrow |
Reading width |
Background colors and images
Blocks and block groups can also have a background color or image in their layout configuration. With a background color, the theme computes readable text, link and heading colors for it. With a background image, it lays a dark scrim under white text, enough for 4.5:1 contrast over any photo.
Tip: a hero section is a block group with a background image, a minimum height and the section-full class, containing a Page title block (Display title template) and an HTML block (Call to action template).
