A new site already looks like a two-ink zine with the Pink & Blue preset. These steps make it yours. All of them are on the site's Theme › Edit theme settings page, or in Customize if Design Studio is installed.
1. Choose a preset
Under Style preset, pick Pink & Blue, Red & Teal, Sunflower & Federal Blue, Orange & Purple or Photocopy. A preset sets the inks, paper, fonts, header layout and paste-up together. Settings left at "Use preset" follow it, so you can try each one and keep your own choices. See Presets, ink and paper.
2. Set the ink and paper
Under Ink & paper, choose how far the second ink slips (misregistration), how cards and pictures are pasted down, which pictures print in two inks, the paper, and the font of labels and small print. Sunflower & Federal Blue turns the effects down for a calmer newsletter.
3. Give items a Type
Each card carries a sticker saying what the item is, and the same word sits above an item's title. Overprint reads it from the item's Type (dcterms:type), such as "Flyer", "Zine", "Cassette" or "Photograph", and falls back to the item's class where it has no type. See Browse and item pages.
4. Add your logo, masthead and site icon
Under Header, choose a Logo, or leave it empty and Overprint sets the site's title as a masthead. Add a Tagline for the small line under it. The same section has the header's layout and color, search and an optional button: see Header, announcement bar and footer. Under Site icon & sharing, choose a Site icon for browser tabs and phone home screens, and a Default sharing image for link previews. See Site icon and sharing.
5. Fill in the announcement bar and footer
The Announcement bar is the strip across the top of every page: an issue line, opening hours, a call for donations. In Footer, add where to find you, how to lend or donate, social media links, and your contact, accessibility and privacy pages.
6. Build your home page
Give the home page the Landing page template, then add blocks: a hero banner (its words sit on the paper, its picture is taped beside them), a browse preview of what is new, a pull quote from someone who was there, and a call to action in a colored section. Group a heading and a list of pages in a Block group with the class section-accent for a band of the first ink. See Page templates and Block templates and sections.
7. Check the result
Add the Style book template to a private page: it shows your colors, a contrast report for every color pair, type, buttons and forms in your settings.
