Vitrine

Releases

0.8.1

Oct 15, 2026

Runs on Theme Engine 1.3.1.

  • Advanced Search's active facets (with the Reference module, which its facets need) are chips in the theme's colors, readable in dark mode, with a × that every font can show.

0.8.0

Oct 15, 2026

Runs on Theme Engine 1.3.0.

  • Popular modules from the Omeka S directory fit the theme in both color schemes: their own pages (Advanced Search's search page, Mapping's map) sit in the page column, Universal Viewer and Mirador keep their own interface, and Mapping, Transcript, Access, Advanced Search and Block Plus take the theme's colors, fields and cards. See Module integrations in the docs.
  • A module's block in an item page's sidebar (Theme › Configure resource pages) sits in a panel like the theme's own sidebar blocks.
  • Browse pages › Line under the card title can show the Type and date: the item's Type (dcterms:type), else its class, then the date. With it, the label above item titles shows the type too.
  • The item details placed in the sidebar get their "Details" heading, as in the top and bottom regions.
  • A new theme thumbnail, from the demo site.

0.7.0

Oct 13, 2026

Runs on Theme Engine 1.1.0.

  • Two blocks for item pages, under Theme › Configure resource pages: Wall label, an artwork's caption the way a museum hangs it (the artist and their dates, title and date, medium, dimensions, credit line, number, then the label text), and Linked items as cards, the items that link to this one (an artist's works, say) as a grid of cards.
  • Browse pages › Line under the card title: the class and date (as before), the creators and date, the date only, or nothing.
  • Description on cards can show In list view only: three lines in list rows, none in a grid. In list view, cards without a frame keep their text off the image.
  • Cite this names linked creators and publishers by their titles; it printed the linked item's web address.
  • A values list placed in the top or bottom region gets a "Details" heading and its usual rows.
  • Search filters show each value as a chip, so several item sets no longer run together.
  • theme.jpg shows the Tincup demo site with the whole search placeholder.

0.6.1

Oct 12, 2026

  • The header search field is wide enough for its placeholder in every bundled font: 16em, following the site's text size ("Search the collection" was cut short at common window widths). Theme Engine 1.0.1.
  • theme.jpg, the theme's picture in Omeka's theme list, shows the Tincup Mountain demo site.
  • The store listing and docs show screenshots of the demo site.

0.6.0

Vitrine now runs on the Theme Engine, the shared core of RefBytes themes. Sites look and work exactly as before; nothing to change after updating.

  • The settings logic, design tokens, templates, base styles, scripts and module integrations moved into the engine (engine/). Vitrine keeps its design: style presets and fonts (config/design.php), its own touches (asset/css/vitrine.css) and its settings list.
  • Templates call the helper as $this->ThemeEngine(). $this->Vitrine() still works, so custom templates keep working.
  • The live customizer is now called Design Studio (1.0), and works with every RefBytes theme. Vitrine Studio 0.2 still works with this version; install Design Studio before uninstalling it to keep drafts in progress.
  • Asset paths changed: the base stylesheet is asset/engine/css/engine.css (cascade layers engine.*, with Vitrine's rules in the theme layer), module styles asset/engine/css/integrations.css, the script asset/engine/js/engine.js. Custom CSS that targets @layer vitrine.* should use @layer engine.*; the --v-* tokens and .v-* classes are unchanged.
  • Tests and tools moved to engine/tests/ and engine/tools/, and take the theme folder as an argument.
  • The Chatbot panel's header and close button take the theme's text color for the primary color, instead of always white.

0.5.1

Oct 12, 2026

  • Copy buttons now show that they worked. Copy link (Share) and Copy citation (Cite this) turn into a check mark and "Copied" for a moment, and a short notice appears below them. Before, the confirmation was only announced to screen readers: a hidden-text rule kept the message off the screen.
  • Copying falls back to the browser's older copy command when the clipboard API is missing or refused (plain http, older browsers, a page that is not focused), so the buttons work, and are shown, there too. If copying still fails, the text is selected so it can be copied by hand.
  • The Email share button opens the device's email app with a mailto: link, which does nothing when no email app is set up (common with webmail). When no app takes over, a notice now suggests copying the link instead.
  • These messages use the theme's notice colors, readable in light and dark mode.

Release preparation: every public page of Omeka is designed, and the theme is ready for other languages, search engines and link previews.

  • Search across all sites (Omeka's cross-site search: the search page, grouped results, items, item sets and pages with pagination, and the advanced item and item set searches) now uses the theme's layout, search field and cards. Cards say which sites each item belongs to and open it in the current site when it is part of it. Before, these pages ran edge to edge as bare lists.
  • Page browse (/s/<site>/page) lists the pages with their last update; a site without pages shows a friendly page with browse buttons.
  • Linked resources (the item page block) has a heading, and its filter, count, table and pagination are styled for Omeka 4.2's markup (the old rules targeted a class 4.2 no longer outputs).
  • oEmbed blocks keep the embed's own proportions as the column narrows (videos were squashed into their fixed height on phones), give a frame without a title an accessible name, and load it lazily.
  • IIIF image and IIIF presentation blocks fit the screen height (the Mirador viewer was 700 px tall on phones) and are framed like media.
  • The page date/time block is a quiet line of <time> elements.
  • Your own fonts: Typography › Font stylesheet links a stylesheet that loads licensed fonts (Adobe Fonts, Google Fonts, or a CSS file on your own server), and Custom heading font / Custom body font use them. The chosen included font then only sets the system fallback, so it is no longer downloaded alongside.
  • New resource page block Vitrine: Previous and next in collection (first in the item page's top region by default): previous and next items of the item's set, with their titles, and "Item 12 of 28 in Set". It follows the set the visitor came from and the order they browsed it in (links on a set's page carry item_set_id, and the sort when the visitor chose one), else the item's first set in the site's default order. Arriving from a set, the breadcrumbs lead through it.
  • New settings group Site icon & sharing: a site icon (browser tabs, phone home screens), a default sharing image, and Add search engine and sharing tags: every page gets a description (the resource's description, the page's first text block, or the site summary), Open Graph and Twitter card tags, and resource and page views a canonical link. Tags a module already set (OgImages, SEO modules) are kept; only missing ones are added. Phones' address bars take the header color.
  • Right-to-left languages: the page direction follows the site's locale (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu and other right-to-left languages and scripts), directional arrows mirror, and the image viewer's arrow keys follow the screen.
  • Translation-ready: theme strings and setting labels can be translated with language/<locale>.po/.mo files; language/template.pot lists all 365 strings, and tools/update-translation-template.php rebuilds it.
  • Store documentation in docs/ (installation, first steps, every settings group, page and block templates, item pages, search, accessibility, languages, module integrations, developer notes, FAQ), listed in publish.json.
